EL PERIODICO

“Estartús and the search for the being”

His field is that of the Abstract Informalism with a clear Catalan root and with his own diction.  He looks for the essence of the being and expresses the diverse stages human moods go through.

Josep M. Cedesa

Awarded with the Cross of  Saint Jordi by the Generalitat for his work as an art critic.

REVISTART

“Estartús, art essence”

Estartús remains that artist capable of digging into the short cut of human existence, genuine refuge of fine art experience, in an example of expository sincerity with which we can sail the seas of our own universe. Through his fine art work, Estartús carries out the task of investigation and reflection of the subconscious, going in depth into the essence of human fundamental issues.  He goes further than the representation of these last ones as a simple piece embedded into the extensive social road map.

SUBASTAS SIGLO XIX

“Estartús a paint philosopher”

Creator of abstractions where the winners are psychoanalysis, beautiful life, philosophy and the most proper human self-reflection.   That´s the way Estartús work is, unique, vital and perfectionist; a gift for the senses which invites to the deepest self-reflection of human thoughts.  When Estartús stands in front of the project of a new work he immerses himself in a new search of the unknown, where he will, without a doubt, leave part of his own experience of life.  That´s the point in which the wealth of the creative process grows to become the undisputed main theme.

What matters most for this painter, who paints because of a pure natural need, is to transmit and get to touch the most spiritual essence of the spectators who approach his work prepared to learn about themselves.  They are messages that transcend their own physical limits and are captured and kept in the memory without having to strain and that will stay there for much longer. Let yourself to be seduced by this risky gamble, where you will be able to discover a whole new way to see the essence of art through abstraction.

Blanca Ramos Jarque

ANTIQVARIA

“Estartús.  The essence of painting”

Estartús is a man of science and humanities, a truly Renaissance man of our time.  His dedication to painting is so strong that when he exhibits, his works end up fascinating and are acquired by enthusiastic public.  Catalan informalism pounds in his work, he tries to physically feel matter in a restrained and austere dramatic way, unaware of any rhetorical sensationalism.  A tiny detail can gain enormous importance; it can determine the meaning of a painting which is full of nooks and crannies.  For him, painting is a way to get close to transcendence.

“Estartús and the search for essence through art”

Estartús works used to appear in really prestigious art galleries such as Dau al set and Greca in the late 80´s and through the 90´s. The continuity of those galleries was disrupted due to several causes  and today it´s increasingly difficult to find galleries that go for the search of new ways of expression of visual arts the way those galleries used to do.  However there is always someone prepared to take the risk of sharing with the artist the passion of finding new ways.  That´s the reason we could recently see a large exhibit of Estartús latest works in the Boulevard of Antique dealers in Barcelona.  We can notice how this artist keeps a strong, clean and intense capacity to penetrate in the deep jungle that  human thought is, when we go further than the living codes borne within the needs we have to live together.  The subconscious becomes tangible reality through his work.  However we aren´t before a solving problem attitude intending for resigning to what is generally accepted.  It´s not, speaking in layman´s terms, as the psychiatrist´s  coach, but a reflection about the essence of living and thinking in order to grow towards both, individual and collective authenticity.

Estartús is a truly painting philosopher. His aesthetic quality, as there is beauty in his paintings, is never unjustified, which it doesn´t mean that everything is worked out beforehand.  Although he engages in spontaneity, he previously reflects on feelings, emotions, passion and human will to find the meaning of all those issues.  His synthesis effort is large and therefore his painting is well embedded into the concept with an accurate diction to reach others convincingly.  Although it´s obvious that there is not didactic intention in his work, he actually shows us how to explore within oneself through his expository sincerity.

We can find courage for searching and generosity when he shares his own findings.  He departs from his own knowledge and doesn´t improvise; he neither restricts himself to the delivery nor measures out what he tells. It´s just that he fully gives himself into each work.  However , he doesn´t spread one way and then in an opposite way as it would be the case for someone who doesn´t know the ground, quite the contrary he´s systematic and in his whole work you can work out a new attractive conception of what the world we live in should be like.

LA NACION

“Art essence through abstraction”

Estartús, an artist who is a good example of what art can mean for those who truly feel it.  Estartús work can be included in what we call Abstract Informalism, which means that his work escapes from the strict abstraction to use the language of signs as an ideal channel of communication between what it´s felt and what wants to be transmitted due to the fact that painting becomes a pure vital necessity.  The matter with which works are created is as rich and varied as his pictorial idea.  Estartús is able of turning any of those materials into ideal supports for his art creation.  A work, in short, that has to be seen and analysed, if you want to share with Estartús the emotions and uneasiness that can be provoked by a work created from the purest abstraction and which puts the chosen support as an intimate, personal and communicative feeling.

“His paintings are mostly Informalist, matteric and metallic of exceptional beauty in the final result.  Beauty is not at odds with the severity of the manipulation of the materials used. Although the vision is precisely a matissian colorist aesthetic, the artist manages powerful visual effects that attract the eye whether on metal or on canvas.  The artist lives painting and therefore the result enshrines the absorption of his creative energies."

 SUBASTAS SIGLO XXI
“Estartús: the synthetic simplicity of the message”
“We find here and artist with huge humanistic training that impregnates all his work.  What best defines Estartús work, attitude and path is the authenticity,  he lack of concessions to the market, the lack of gregariousness to trends and  the lack mangering of official artists. He´s completely convinced that his life is art and that his work is the most important thing in his life and that being away from his designed path can only produce pain and disappointment.  He is still there, determined to achieve spontaneity and sincerity in his work.  This is precisely the conviction that gives deep roots and strength to the work of this unique artist.  The truth is that Estartús work has grown in parallel to his demands. He has refined his personal look on the contemporary abstraction.  He has reached an aesthetic without conventionalisms as a creator of a language capable of transmitting spiritual seduction.  The journalist recognizes in the painter the authenticity of his work, full of pictorial honesty and oblivious to trends, subordinations and market interests.  Estartús goes strong in a market lacking personality and own style.

REVISTART

“ Estartús, the aesthetic of the essential”

The reasons that drive artists to confront their own creation are several.  In the case of Estartús we are talking about a necessity of vital nature, a push with which he tries to show on the canvas his emotions and real feelings.  The beginning of a work has a truly adventurous dimension for the artist. It means the beginning of a trip through unknown paths, a tour through the subconscious which doesn´t mean liberation for the artist or for us.   It means a plastic reflection about the walked path in which memories come up non stopping, ideas that transport the artist to the final point that each ended work means. All of them end up having proper identity, becoming a reality by themselves, capable of growing, acting and breathing.  There isn´t free beauty in his work.  Beauty is based on a serious reflection, which doesn´t mean to give up spontaneity.

Julio Domínguez.

“Estartus first exhibition in Madrid”

Estartús Work is characterized by the search for the essential through abstract art with a tint of Realism.  He bases his work on the treatment of materials, investigation of textures, colours and shapes.  The Work of the artist has been recently recognized by the Museo de arte contemporaneo Conde Duque, which has selected him as one of the main representatives of our current art. In this unprecedented exhibition we can appreciate the quality of his most recent Work and we can notice how he keeps a strong, clean and intense capacity to penetrate into human thoughts, feelings, passions and the will to find the most intimate meaning of all of them.

ESTARTÚS. PINTURA MUY LIBRE Y CREATIVA

ESTARTUS.  FREE AND CREATIVE PAINTING

I´m surprised that at 80, after having seen, looked and enjoyed so much art, I can still discover an artist that can move me.  This has been the case of the Catalan Estartús in his exhibition at Victor I fills Art Gallery in Madrid.  Walking, looking and enjoying his paint which is so rich in concept, matter and shape seems to me a miracle.  Nobody can deny that he belongs to the Catalan School, to his informalist abstraction, even though from time to time, he shows a vague reference to reality.  Estartus is an artist and a maker because of the way he conceives his artistic universe and how he develops it, with materials on the canvas or on the boards.  I like his mineral atmospheres and the ochre.  He occasionally builds with tints of reds or rich whites. His language has a formal perseverance that speaks of his coherence but each painting stays different, keeping the identity of the work.  He knows how to compose the essence of the idea at a rhythm that is pleasantly accepted by the eye.  Behind his whole Work you can guess the presence of a good drawer, in fact his multiple draws witness this fact. This is an artist who lives for art, to which he devotes his imagination and fantasy to offer us a rich, hard and creamy series.  His plastic art has the consistency of someone who knows the work and through it and with great freedom he can condense his plastic wisdom.  Saying it in short, his philosophy and his way of thinking.

“Estartús returns us to the search for the essential  through abstract art, where materials, textures shapes and colours remind us the validity of Informalism as a current commitment.  With his paintings, the subconscious becomes tangible reality and introduces the spectator in a visual reflection about individual and collective existential essences. Resins, marble powder and rust are presented as spontaneous stains which at times try to reach representations without showing clear figures.  However they penetrate in the thought as if they were  philosophical, not ending, poetic speeches”
